PS meets Kenya Red Cross Secretary General to explore areas of collaboration to strengthen Primary Health Care Networks

Nairobi June 19, 2023 Focusing on pressing issues impacting our communities, the government is taking decisive action to address them effectively. In pursuit of promoting well-being, health, and resilience, Principal Secretary State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, held a meeting with Mr. Ahmed Idris, Secretary General of Kenya Red Cross. The objective was to review existing collaboration areas and explore avenues for intensifying efforts in strengthening Primary Health Care Networks (PCN).

Recognizing the significant contributions of Kenya Red Cross, especially in programmatic areas like Disaster Risk Management and Response, nutrition, community health services, and mental health, the government aims to capitalize on this collaboration. These areas directly align with the strategic direction of the Ministry of Health and further support the overarching goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

During the meeting, discussions centered around expanding the collaboration to address critical issues. Key areas of interest included capacity building for Community Health Promoters (CHPs), disease surveillance, training on occupational first aid for government drivers, disaster management and response training, establishment of an incidence command system for health, and joint resource mobilization for UHC. “By working together, we aim to make substantial progress in these priority areas for the betterment of our communities,” PS Muthoni said.
