PS Medical Services Hosts IVI Director

Nairobi, Kenya- 13th October 2023 - Today, Mr. Harry Kimtai, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Medical Services, hosted Dr. Jerome Kim, Director-General of the International Vaccines Institute (IVI). 

During the meeting, Mr. Kimtai updated Dr. Kim on Kenya's significant progress toward the final parliamentary ratification for IVI membership. 

Dr. Kim provided valuable insights into the establishment of the African Vaccines Alliance (AVA), which serves as a catalyst for vaccine research and development in Africa. IVI, a non-profit international organization with a mission to discover, develop, and deliver safe, effective, and affordable vaccines for global health, is actively exploring the establishment of an Africa office for AVA and considering the potential for an IVI Country Office. 

Dr. Kimtai expressed his gratitude for the suggestion to establish an IVI office in Nairobi, citing the President's commitment to supporting Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
