Elgeyo Marakwet, Kenya - 14th January 2024 - In a significant development, President H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto inaugurated the newly established Mother and Baby Unit at Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) today.ย 

Accompanied by Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula, EGH, Area Governor Wisley Rotich, and government officials, the 80-bed capacity facility is poised to redefine comprehensive mother and baby healthcare in the region.

ย During the ceremony, President Ruto expressed a commitment to ensuring universal access to health insurance for every Kenyan, regardless of their financial status. Currently, the vulnerable population pays 500 health insurance per month, a figure slated to reduce to 300 per month.

Furthermore, the president made a commitment for the government to pay for those unable to afford the reduced amount. This initiative marks a significant stride towards providing accessible health insurance for every Kenyan.
