Nurse Leaders Meet with Cabinet Secretary for Health to Reaffirm Support for SHA and UHC Rollout

Β OnΒ November 15, 2024, a delegation of nurse leaders met with Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, reaffirming their support for the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).Β 

Β The delegation included Dr. Judith Awinja, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services at Afya House; Prof. Eunice Ndirangu, Chair of the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK); Dr. Lister Onsongo, CEO of NCK; Collins Ajwang’, President of the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK); Catherine Mwaura, Representative of Mid-level Training Institutions; Dr. Albanas Mutisya, Universities Representative; Seth Panyako, Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Nurses; and Rahel Mukhwana, Director of Nursing Services at Kenyatta National Hospital.Β 

Β They discussed the critical role of nurses in healthcare reforms, stressing the need for their inclusion in leadership roles, empanelment in SHA packages, representation in health committees, and involvement in streamlining the nurse migration process for overseas placements.
