Kenya–Morocco Programme Expands Cochlear Implant Care for Children
Kenya is strengthening specialised care for children with hearing impairment through a medical cooperation programme with Morocco aimed at expanding cochlear implantation services and developing local expertise.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga accompanied H.E. Mama Rachel Ruto, EGH, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, on a visit to Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, Morocco. They met Kenyan children receiving cochlear implants, their families and medical professionals supporting the programme.
Supported by the Princess Lalla Asmaa Foundation, the programme is enabling children with hearing impairment to regain their hearing and connect more fully with their families and surroundings.
Dr Oluga reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening the specialised skills and expertise gained through the Kenya–Morocco medical exchange to extend cochlear implantation services to more children across the country.
The programme forms part of wider Kenya–Morocco health cooperation focused on building specialised medical capacity and increasing access to life-changing care.
