Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital Prepares for October Commissioning
Vihiga, - Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga visited Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital to assess progress and operational readiness ahead of its planned commissioning in .
The assessment covered infrastructure development, installation of medical equipment, service-delivery systems and staffing requirements. It also reviewed the hospital’s preparedness to provide comprehensive and specialised healthcare services to residents of Vihiga County and the wider Western Kenya region.
Dr. Oluga commended the progress made, noting that investment in modern health infrastructure must result in improved access, better quality of care and positive health outcomes for Kenyans.
Once operational, the hospital will expand access to specialised services closer to communities and strengthen the referral network across the region. Its development is part of the Government’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and build a responsive, integrated health system.
The national and county governments are working together to prepare the facility for operations. The partnership recognises the central role of counties in delivering frontline healthcare, with the national government supporting specialised, referral and other strategic health services.
Dr. Oluga was received by Vihiga Deputy Governor Hon. Wilberforce Kitiezo, County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Nicholas Kitungulu, Chief Officer for Health Dr. Mary Susan Anyienda and Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mr. Titus Mumia.
