New mission hospital expands access to healthcare on Mfangano Island

Homa Bay County, Kenya -  - Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga presided over the official opening of the Rev. Naphtaly Matan Memorial Mission Hospital and the groundbreaking ceremony for its expansion on Mfangano Island, Homa Bay County.

The new facility is expected to improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Mfangano Island and surrounding communities, reducing the distance patients travel to seek essential health services.

Dr. Oluga urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority to benefit from services provided under the Government’s Universal Health Coverage programme and protect families from financial hardship when seeking care.

He reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to supporting the hospital as it expands its services and capacity to respond to the healthcare needs of the island community.

The Principal Secretary toured the facility before leading the groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of expansion. The development demonstrates the contribution of partnerships between the Government, faith-based organisations and development partners in strengthening healthcare delivery and bringing services closer to communities.

Present were the hospital’s Executive Director, Silas Chepkeres Jakakimba, church leaders, county officials, development partners, health workers and members of the local community.
