Kenya Enhances Surveillance as Marburg Cases Emerge in Ethiopia, PS Muthoni Says
Embu ,2025 The Government has heightened public health surveillance at airports, border points, and other high-risk areas following reports of Marburg Virus Disease in neighbouring Ethiopia. These precautionary measures are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen early detection, preparedness, and prevention to protect communities.
This update was delivered by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, during a community engagement forum in Mbeere North, Embu County, where she met Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and local residents.
The PS highlighted steady progress in the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and commended CHPs for their sustained contribution to community sensitisation on disease prevention and SHA registration.
County leadership, led by Governor Cecily Mbarire, reaffirmed the strong partnership between national and county governments in strengthening the community health model, improving access to quality services, and ensuring availability of essential medicines in health facilities.
The forum further underscored the Government’s commitment to expanding social protection initiatives, improving health services, and advancing priority development programmes that enhance household well-being across the region.
