Kenya Strengthens Emergency Care and Referral Systems with New Ambulances and Medical Supplies from WHO
Nairobi, Kenya - - As part of ongoing healthcare reforms under Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Ministry of Health continues to strengthen emergency care, referral systems, and service delivery through close collaboration with county governments and development partners.
at State House Nairobi, H.E. President Dr William Ruto, accompanied by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon Aden Duale and Principal Secretaries Dr Ouma Oluga (Medical Services) and Ms Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards), received ambulances and essential medical supplies from the World Health Organization (WHO) for seven national referral facilities and the National Emergency Response Centre. These investments will enhance emergency response capacity, expand access to medical oxygen, and improve the quality of care in high-demand facilities.
In addition, counties including Elgeyo Marakwet, Marsabit, Siaya, Samburu, and Tana River will receive similar vehicles to support reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services.
The new resources will play a vital role in reducing maternal and newborn deaths, strengthening preparedness against cholera, Mpox, and other public health threats, and advancing the country’s progress towards ensuring that every Kenyan can access high-quality, reliable healthcare.
