Kenya Records Major Milestones in Universal Health Coverage Under BETA Agenda

Nairobi , 2025The Ministry of Health has made significant progress in advancing Universal Health Coverage under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. To date, 106,542 Community Health Promoters, representing 99.6%, have been trained and kitted to deliver essential health services at the community level.

In addition, 8.8 million households out of the targeted 12.5 million have already been registered on the Electronic Community Health Information System, with the exercise ongoing to ensure every household in Kenya is captured.

To further strengthen Human Resources for Health, the Ministry has also operationalized the Kenya Human Resource Advisory Council (KHHRAC). The Ministry has further recorded a 22.3% increase in Social Health Insurance membership, rising from 8 million (NHIF) to the current 28.8 million under the Social Health Authority (SHA).

These milestones were  highlighted during the Principal Secretaries Monthly Meeting chaired by the Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, where Principal Secretaries, Dr. Ouma Oluga-Medical Services and Mary Muthoni- Public Health and Professional Standards presented on the progress made in implementing the BETA commitments on healthcare financing, human resources, and digitisation of the health ecosystem.
