CS Nakhumicha Leads Kenya's Delegation to the 77th World Health Assembly

Nairobi, 25th May 2024: CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula is leading Kenya’s high-level delegation at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, starting on Monday, May 27, 2024.

As the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), the WHA convenes annually, bringing together health ministers from all WHO member countries.

Under the theme "All for Health, Health for All," CS Nakhumicha and her team, including Ag. Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth and other senior Ministry of Health officials, will engage in vital discussions and events.

Key agenda items include proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations of 2005 and ongoing negotiations for a Pandemic Treaty. Kenya's leadership in these discussions aims to foster global consensus and coordinated responses, especially in light of lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Critical discussions on TB Vaccine Accelerator council, non-communicable diseases, and maternal, newborn, and child health are also on the agenda. CS Nakhumicha will engage in high-level discussions with key partners such as the World Bank, USAID, Global Fund, CDC, among others.

The 77th WHA aligns with Kenya’s commitment to universal health coverage (UHC), demonstrated by the enactment of four key laws. CS Nakhumicha sees the WHA as an opportunity to advocate for increased support for critical health programs vital to Kenya's UHC goals.
