Ministry of Health Marks World Pneumonia Day with Comprehensive Community Outreach

Nairobi, KENYA - 11th November 2023 - Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, has emphasized the importance of implementing measures to protect children from pneumonia. 

Represented by Dr. Patrick Amoth, the Acting Director General, in a speech delivered during a community outreach in Embakasi, Nairobi, to commemorate World Pneumonia Day, the PS underscored the significance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and the promotion of a balanced diet for optimal child health. 

He advised mothers to adhere to vaccination schedules to prevent severe forms of pneumonia and encouraged them to seek early treatment if they observe signs of pneumonia. 

The PS also reiterated key points, including the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, maintaining balanced diets, adhering to vaccination schedules, and the need for prompt treatment for pneumonia symptoms.

Furthermore, the PS reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to Universal Health Coverage through recent legislation, with the aim of reducing out-of-pocket spending. The event included a community health outreach that provided essential services for child pneumonia prevention, marking a significant effort in support of #WorldPneumoniaDay and #ChildHealth.
