Ministry of Health Demonstrates Commitment to Combat Tobacco Use

Nairobi, Kenya - , 2023 - , Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai of the State Department of Medical Services received a courtesy visit from representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), including Dr. Adriana Blanco Marquizo, Head of the Convention Secretariat of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, Dr. Vinaya Prasa, Dr. William Maina, as well as Mr. Shadrack Mose from the Office of the Attorney General, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting focused on robust discussions and collaborative strategies to strengthen tobacco control measures. 

During the meeting, Principal Secretary Kimtai reiterated the Ministry of Health's unwavering commitment, alongside Dr. Blanco Marquizo, Dr. Prasa, and Dr. Maina, to upholding responsibilities in the domain of tobacco control. They expressed readiness to overcome challenges and emphasized the ministry's dedication to working closely with all stakeholders. 

Additionally, the  Principal Secretary highlighted the ministry's determination to actively participate in the upcoming celebration scheduled for  in Migori County. This significant event, supported by Dr. Blanco Marquizo, Dr. Prasa, and Dr. Maina, aims to raise awareness and unite efforts to combat tobacco use, ultimately improving public health outcomes.
