Ministry of Health Conducts Sensitization Session on Social Health Insurance Regulations

Nairobi, Kenya - 30th January 2024 - Today, the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of CS Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula, organized a sensitization session on the Social Health Insurance (General) Regulations at Afya House.

The session aimed to acquaint MoH staff and SAGA's with the transition from NHIF to SHIF, empowering them to advocate for the benefits of SHIF.

Highlights included commitments to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality, eradicate fundraising for medical expenses, and provide free healthcare access at level 1, 2, and 3 facilities through SHA registration. This session signifies a significant stride towards achieving comprehensive healthcare coverage for all Kenyans.

During the session, Nakhumicha urged Ministry employees to effectively disseminate information on the Social Health Authority (SHA) to educate Kenyans and raise public awareness ahead of the implementation of these directives.

She also encouraged the public to continue submitting views on the regulations currently undergoing public participation, as outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, which emphasizes democracy, people's participation, human rights, and other essential national values and principles of governance.

The event was attended by PS Medical Services Harry Kimtai, Ag. Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, Chairpersons, and CEOs of Ministry of Health state corporations, members of Social Health Authority Board led by Chairman Timothy Olweny and acting CEO Elijah Wachira.
