Kenya's Path to Universal Health Coverage Enhance by Digital Health Innovations

Mombasa, Kenya – 20th June 2024 - Digital health stands at the forefront of Kenya's efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage, a focal point reiterated during the ongoing HIV Service Delivery Integration Summit in Mombasa.

Dr. Joyce Wamicwe, Head of Division Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the transformative impact of these initiatives, including the Digital Health Act. This legislation aims to digitize health records, establish e-Health services, and integrate telemedicine, particularly benefiting underserved rural areas.

Speaking virtually Dr. Wamicwe highlighted the Digital Health Act's recent parliamentary approval and its potential to streamline healthcare delivery, enhance data management, and position Kenya as a leader in digital health within the region.

The Kenya Health Management Information Systems project plays a critical role in digitizing HIV data collection, thereby improving patient-centered care and leveraging individual-level health data.

Kenya's commitment to telemedicine and electronic health records aims to bridge gaps in healthcare access, addressing challenges such as long wait times for specialist care and disparities in health outcomes.

Dr. Wamicwe underscored the government's support for local manufacturing of healthcare technologies, promoting self-sufficiency and cost-effectiveness while enhancing overall patient care across the country
