Kenya's Ministry Of Health Hosts High-Level Meeting To Address Human Resources For Health

Today, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, hosted a high-level meeting on Human Resources for Health at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting brought together various stakeholders in the healthcare sector to discuss issues affecting the sector.
The meeting focused on a number of important issues including the progress made so far in the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) between the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), the placement of interns, the extension of contracts for healthcare workers engaged under the Universal Health Coverage program, and COVID-19 specialists.
Representatives from the Public Service Commission (PSC), Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Ministry of Labour, Council of Governors Chairpersons for Health and Labour Committees, and the Ministry of Public Service, Affirmative Action and Gender were in attendance, along with Hon. Muthomi Njuki and Hon. Johnson Sakaja.
The Ministry of Health, Principal Secretary of State Department of Medical Services, Eng. Peter Tum, and Dr. Josephine Mburu of the State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards were also present at the meeting.
The implementation of the 2017-2021 CBA has been a major issue for the KMPDU, with doctors threatening to go on strike over delays in its implementation. The meeting provided an opportunity for all stakeholders to assess the progress made so far and identify areas that need improvement.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Wafula emphasized the government's commitment to improving the healthcare sector in Kenya, stating that they are committed to ensuring that healthcare workers are well-compensated and motivated to provide quality services to Kenyans. She also thanked all the stakeholders for their continued support and partnership in ensuring the success of the sector.
This meeting is a significant step towards improving the healthcare sector in Kenya, and the government's commitment to this cause is commendable.
