Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Highlights The Importance of Collaboration for Achieving Universal Health Coverage

Nairobi, Kenya, April 20, 2023

Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nakhumicha S. Wafula, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the national government and counties to achieve quality and affordable healthcare for all Kenyans during the 20th Health Sector Intergovernmental Consultative Forum.
The theme of the forum was "Afya Mashinani", highlighting the critical role that counties play in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya.
CS Nakhumicha stressed the need to align key performance indicators between the national government and counties to offer quality healthcare to all Kenyans. She also reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment to supporting counties in equipping health facilities.
The forum brought together county health ministers from all the 47 counties in Kenya to discuss ways to strengthen the health sector, including improving access to essential medicines and medical equipment. Attendees highlighted the need to enhance human resources for health, improve the quality of health services, and strengthen health information systems.
The meeting concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to work together towards achieving UHC in Kenya. CS Nakhumicha expressed optimism that the collaborative efforts between the national government and counties would go a long way in realizing this goal.
This collaborative approach towards UHC is crucial for Kenya, as it will ensure that all Kenyans have access to quality healthcare regardless of their location or socio-economic status. The commitment of the Ministry of Health and the county health ministers is a significant step towards achieving UHC in Kenya.
