Kenya Strengthens Local Capacity and Partnerships to Accelerate Universal Health Coverage
Nairobi, Kenya - - Kenya is strengthening local capacity, sustainable health financing and strategic partnerships as part of efforts to build a resilient health system and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga outlined the Government’s approach during a plenary session at the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Business Summit in Nairobi, where discussions focused on strengthening health systems and advancing sustainable healthcare delivery.
Dr. Oluga said the Government is working with bilateral and multilateral partners to address priority health-system needs while progressively strengthening the country’s capacity to finance and sustain essential health services.
He cited the five-year Kenya–United States Health Cooperation Framework as one of the strategic partnerships supporting Kenya’s health priorities while advancing the country towards a more self-reliant healthcare system.
The Principal Secretary noted that stronger local capacity will enable Kenya to mobilise resources, invest in catalytic innovations and improve the efficiency and sustainability of health service delivery.
He further emphasised that building a resilient healthcare system requires long-term investment in domestic capacity, stronger institutions and partnerships that complement national priorities and support the delivery of quality healthcare.
The AmCham Business Summit brings together government officials, investors, business leaders and development partners to explore opportunities for trade, investment and strategic cooperation across key sectors, including health.
