Kenya Positions Health as Driver of Investment and Economic Growth at AmCham Summit
NAIROBI, Kenya, , 2026 — Kenya is positioning health as a key driver of investment, industrialisation and economic growth as the country advances implementation of the USD 2.5 billion U.S.–Kenya Health Cooperation Framework.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale highlighted the Government’s focus on building a more self-reliant health system as he joined Kenyan, U.S., regional and global leaders at the opening plenary of the two-day American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Business Summit in Nairobi.
Presided over by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto, the Summit is being held under the theme, “Advancing Mutual Prosperity Through Trade and Investment,” providing a platform to deepen Kenya–U.S. trade and investment relations across strategic sectors, including health.
A key focus of the Summit is the U.S.–Kenya Health Cooperation Framework, with a dedicated health-sector engagement convened under the theme, “Building a Self-Reliant, Investment-Ready Health System.” The Framework seeks to strengthen sustainability, domestic capacity and shared responsibility while creating greater opportunities for investment in Kenya’s health sector.
Over the past 25 years, the United States has invested approximately USD 7 billion in Kenya’s health sector. The new cooperation framework marks an evolution of this partnership towards greater country ownership and long-term health-system resilience.
Kenya’s priorities include strengthening sustainable health financing, expanding local pharmaceutical manufacturing, harnessing digital health innovation and attracting private-sector investment while building the domestic capacity required to sustain health gains.
The approach aligns with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Taifa Care reforms, which seek to position health not only as a fundamental social investment but also as an important contributor to industrialisation, innovation, employment and economic growth.
The Summit brought together leaders from government, business and development partners, including Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Mr. Frank Garcia; U.S. Embassy Kenya Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Susan Burns; Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Hon. Lee Kinyanjui; Mastercard Senior Vice President Mr. Azzam Alameddin; and AmCham Board President Ms. Angela Nganga.
