KEMSA Kisumu Regional Distribution Centre Inaugurated to Enhance Healthcare Access

Kisumu, Kenya - 6th March 2024 - In a bid to bolster healthcare accessibility and efficiency in the Western region of Kenya, the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) officially inaugurated the Kisumu Regional Distribution Centre.

The ceremony, graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula, marked a pivotal moment in the region's healthcare infrastructure development.

ย The newly commissioned facility, strategically located to serve facilities across Nyanza, Western, and North Rift regions, is poised to streamline the procurement and distribution of essential medical supplies and drugs.

With dignitaries including local governors and health officials in attendance, the event underscored the government's commitment to advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and bolstering healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

In her address, CS Nakhumicha emphasized the pivotal role of the distribution center in reducing procurement turnaround times and ensuring the availability of quality medical products. The initiative aligns with the government's agenda for Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and national development, with a keen focus on improving access to affordable healthcare for all Kenyans.

ย Acting KEMSA CEO Dr. Andrew Mulwa highlighted the center's capacity to serve 11 counties initially, with plans underway to extend its reach to a total of 19 counties. Dr. Mulwa emphasized the importance of operational infrastructure investment and capacity building to enhance the responsiveness of KEMSA to evolving healthcare needs.

ย The inauguration ceremony also saw advocacy for transparency and integrity within KEMSA, with stakeholders urging staff to embrace change and uphold professionalism in procurement processes.

Dr. Robert Pukose, Chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health, emphasized the importance of delivering demand-driven healthcare solutions to enhance customer experience and ensure the provision of quality, affordable healthcare services.
