Healthcare IT Digitization Programme Steering Committee Reviews Progress on UHC Digital Transformation
Nairobi, Kenya - - Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, chaired the Healthcare IT Digitization Programme Steering Committee meeting, bringing together the Safaricom Consortium, the Digital Health Authority (DHA), the Social Health Authority (SHA), the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) and other implementing agencies to review progress in the implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) digital transformation programme.
The meeting reviewed the implementation status of key project milestones, assessed governance and coordination arrangements, and considered measures to accelerate delivery of the programme in line with the Government’s Digital Health agenda. Discussions focused on strengthening project governance, streamlining milestone implementation and certification processes, enhancing coordination among implementing agencies, and resolving emerging technical, contractual, financial and operational issues.
Dr. Oluga underscored the importance of maintaining strong governance structures, transparent communication and close collaboration among all implementing partners to ensure the timely delivery of agreed milestones. He emphasized accountability, adherence to established implementation processes and effective oversight as critical to the successful delivery of the programme.
The Steering Committee agreed on measures to strengthen coordination, improve documentation and communication, expedite the resolution of outstanding technical and contractual matters through the relevant committees, and enhance oversight to ensure seamless implementation of the programme.
The Principal Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building a secure, interoperable and resilient digital health ecosystem that supports Taifa Care and accelerates the realization of Universal Health Coverage by improving the delivery of quality, accessible and efficient healthcare services across the country.
The meeting was attended by Social Health Authority Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi; Digital Health Authority Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Anthony Lenaiyara; representatives of the Safaricom Consortium; the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA); and other implementing agencies.
