Health Secretary Launches KMTC Strategic Plan, Unveils 'The Journey to Greatness' Book and Language Curricula

Wafula took the lead in unveiling the Kenya Medical Training College's (KMTC) Strategic Plan 2022-2028Β today. The launch also featured the introduction of "The Journey to Greatness" historical book and an innovative foreign language curriculum.

Aligned with the national commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the strategic plan encompasses key pillars such as quality training, staff development, digital transformation, and addressing global health challenges. The CS emphasized KMTC's central role in advancing the nation's development agenda, seamlessly integrating with recent health sector reforms.

The plan strategically addresses the demand for a highly skilled healthcare workforce, recognizing KMTC's contribution of over 85% to the nation's healthcare professionals. Nakhumicha underscored the plan's emphasis on preventive and promotive courses, reinforcing the foundation for proactive healthcare.

In alignment with the recent health acts, including the Social Health Insurance Act, Digital Health Act, Primary Healthcare Act, and Facility Improvement Financing Act, the KMTC Strategic Plan sets the stage for a comprehensive healthcare landscape. It ensures inclusivity, financial accessibility, technological integration, and dedicated funding.

Commencing with KMTC's 96th anniversary, "The Journey to Greatness" historical book captures the institution's evolution from four students in 1927 to a current enrollment exceeding 62,000 learners. This publication chronicles KMTC's growth, showcasing resilience in adapting to evolving health needs.

The CS commended KMTC's steadfast commitment to quality training and innovation, solidifying its status as a premier provider of medical education. She urged collaborative efforts for a progressive, responsive, sustainable, and prosperous future in Kenya's medical education and healthcare system.

The unveiling event attracted key stakeholders, including Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni, Members of Parliament, KMTC Board officials, and development partners.
