Health commodity security for Universal Health Coverage

Nairobi , 2023 The Government is working towards ensuring Health commodity security as one of the building blocks for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Towards this end, the Ministry of Health is keen on strengthening the regulatory system for the Pharmacy and Poisons Board(PPB) to achieve World Health Organization Maturity Level 3(ML3). This status will increase our local Pharmaceutical growth enabling us to tap into the huge local pharmaceutical market estimated at USD1 billion annually.

The status will also increase our export opportunities and attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

This move will ensure availability of vaccines for national vaccination programme as the country transition from Gavi support.

Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni Muriuki HSC met the Chief Executive Officer, PPB Dr. Fred Siyoi to examine challenges towards attaining the ML3 status and explored strategies for addressing the gaps.
