Government Launches Kshs 3 Billion Stipend Payment Program for Community Health Promoters

Nairobi, Kenya - 16th February 2024 - On Friday, February 16, 2024, the government initiated a Kshs 3 billion stipend payment program for Community Health Promoters (CHPs), led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Karen residence.

Gachagua, alongside Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula and other top government officials and partners, lauded the CHPs for their vital role in advancing primary healthcare under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

ย Highlighting the necessity of cooperation between County and National governments, Gachagua urged the Council of Governors to fulfill their obligations to ensure the initiative's success.

He defended the introduction of progressive health policies through the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enhance healthcare quality and affordability.

The Deputy President expressed strong support for Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula and her Principal Secretaries, Harry Kimtai and Mary Muthoni, during the launch of the National Government Stipend Payment for Community Health Promoters.

He commended Nakhumicha for her outstanding leadership at Afya House, emphasizing President William Ruto's and his confidence in their abilities. Gachagua pledged continued support for their efforts in advancing Universal Health Coverage, highlighting their contributions to the administration's Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) in the healthcare sector.

Health CS Nakhumicha praised President William Rutoโ€™s administration for recognizing the efforts of CHPs and thanked partners for their support in health reform. She also appealed to KCB and Safaricom to waive transaction costs to ensure the full stipend reaches the intended recipients.

ย The event was attended by Principal Secretaryโ€™s Mary Muthoni Public Health and Professional Standards and Harry Kimtai Medical Services, Parliamentary Health Committee Chairman Dr. Robert Pukose, and representatives from various organizations.
