Exploring Strategies To Strengthen Intergovernmental Relations.

Nairobi, Tuesday March, 28,2023
Dr. Josephine Mburu, PS Ministry of Health, State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, attended an inter-ministerial consultative meeting today to strengthen intergovernmental relations between the National and County Governments for proper coordination of devolved functions and quality services for all.
The meeting convened by the State Department for Devolution highlighted the importance of collaboration between devolved units, ministries, and partners to ensure effective use of resources to address healthcare needs.
The Ministry of Health continues to lead on inter-governmental sectoral consultative forums, with 19 held so far and plans for the 20th. These forums enable the ministry and counties to agree on key health sector issues, which are then escalated to the Intergovernmental Summit chaired by the Head of State and the Chair of Council of Governors.
The Kenya Kwanza Government aims to strengthen intergovernmental and partner relations through the State Department of Devolution, with the Ministry of Health sharing its Health Sector Forums Operations Manual 2019 and Kenya Health Sector Partnership and Coordination Framework 2018-2030 as models for intergovernmental relations.
The PS affirmed that the Ministry of Health will work with the State Department for Devolution and development partners to ensure focused investments for greater outcomes.
The PS was accompanied by Administrative Secretaries Mr. Kimanthi James Mbaluka, Hon Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani, Secretary Administration Mr. Andrew Gitonga Rukaria, and Acting Director Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Joseph Lenai.
