Emergency Polio Vaccination Campaign

Nairobi  August 22,2023 Following the confirmation of polio at the Hagadera Refugee Camp in Garissa Country ,the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Development Partners and county governments plan to roll out roll out a massive Polio Immunisation Campaign targeting 10 high risk counties.

The Campaign will be carried out in three phases Phase one: from - Kiambu, Nairobi, Kajiado,Garrissa

Phase two and three will take place in September to October in Kiambu, Nairobi, Kajiado, Garrissa, Kitui, Machakos, Tana River, Lamu, Wajir and Mandera.

Speaking during a media sensitization meeting in Nairobi, Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni Muriuki called on support from all stakeholders support to encourage uptake of the vaccination. " The Polio battle cannot be worn in isolation, this is a call to arms for every Kenyan. We call upon the media fraternity, community leaders, religious and partners to help disseminate accurate information, counter falsehoods to pave the path to a polio-free future." She urged.

To PS assured of the safety of the vaccines and called on parents and guardians to avail their children below the age of five for vaccination to shield them against the deadly virus whether previously vaccinated or not.

She appreciated County Governments,the World Health Organization, Rotary International, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,FHI360 UNICEF,Save the Children,IRCK,Amref,civil societies among others stakeholders for their support in the polio eradication efforts.

"To our healthcare workers,we appreciate your dedication to ensure a healthy nation.Let us all unite to Immunize and protect all children under the 5 years against Polio!" urged the PS.
