CS Nakhumincha Visits JOOTRH, Pledges Support for Facility Upgrades

Kisumu, Kenya - 6th March 2024 - ย Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula conducted a visit to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Wednesday afternoon as part of her Universal Health Coverage spot checks exercise nationwide.

ย Accompanied by the hospital's new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, the CS addressed the matter of elevating JOOTRH into a level six facility, responding to requests from local Members of Parliament.

This move is expected to alleviate pressure on existing facilities by offering both outpatient and inpatient services.

During her facility tour, CS Nakhumicha, alongside acting Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, allocated Ksh 100 million towards completing the construction of JOOTRH's cancer center.

ย Additionally, she pledged to secure a partner to equip the facility upon completion, which will benefit from the National Government's cancer program, aiming to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.
