CS Nakhumincha Supervises Successful SHA Registration Pilot

Kajiado, Kenya -  -  In preparation for the mass registration of Kenyans into the Social Health Authority (SHA), Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula supervised a successful pilot test at Matasia Health Center in Kajiado County.

Joined by Kajiado North Member of Parliament Onesmus Ngogoyo, SHA Chairperson Dr. Timothy Olweny, and Transition Committee Chairman Kap-Kirwok Jason, CS Nakhumicha emphasized the importance of embracing healthcare reforms led by President William Ruto’s administration.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by delivering quality and affordable healthcare for all, ensuring no one is left behind.

“The government is dedicated to strengthening primary healthcare, having trained and deployed over 100,000 community health promoters across 10,000 Community Health Units nationwide,” stated Nakhumicha. She praised the dedication of Kajiado’s community health promoters, particularly the 35 attached to Matasia Health Center, for their crucial role in advancing socio-economic change and supporting the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The CS urged Governor Joseph Ole Lenku's administration to honor their commitment to remunerate these community health promoters, reinforcing the collaboration needed to enhance service delivery at the county level. Kajiado Health CEC Alex Kilowua noted that preparations are underway to provide additional training to community health promoters in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

This initiative aims to ensure the successful registration of many Kenyans into the SHA. He also highlighted the "Mbuzi Moja" program, launched last year, which seeks to increase UHC beneficiaries to 50,000 through an innovative financing model involving investment in a goat.

The pilot test and subsequent mass registration efforts mark a significant step towards achieving the government’s health goals, promising improved healthcare access and quality for all Kenyans.
