CS Nakhumicha Unveils Health Transformation Strategies in SHA Transition

Nairobi, Kenya 26th January 2024 - In a pivotal move to reshape the nation's healthcare landscape, CS Nakhumicha led a public participation session with the media, addressing key aspects of transitioning to the Social Health Authority (SHA).

The briefing covered crucial topics, including the media's role in information dissemination, the adoption of a digitalized Social Health Insurance Fund, and ensuring NHIF staff safety during the transition.

The event marked the initiation of a series of engagements spanning all 47 counties, highlighting a commitment to transparent communication and collaborative efforts to advance the nation's health agenda.

Nakhumicha assured a seamless transition and shared ongoing efforts in verifying pending claims. Unpaid claims will be transferred to SHA and settled progressively she said.

She also noted that the ministry is actively seeking an integrated health management system to address challenges in health commodities, ensuring online drug ordering in collaboration with county governments. 

Emphasizing SHA's digitization to prevent fraud, Nakhumicha pledged non-discrimination under SHA and emphasized improving the referral system. The move signifies a significant stride towards achieving a transformed and inclusive healthcare system.

Principal Secretary Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, Social Health Authority Chairman, Dr. Timothy Olweny, and acting CEO Elijah Wachira, among others, participated in the session.
