A strengthened and well-coordinated Public Health system is fundamental to emergency response.

Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni held a meeting with CDC Kenya CDC-Kenya  and East Africa Country Director Dr. Amy Roloff, they discussed areas of collaboration in view of aligning support to current and emerging country needs .

The focus of the conversation was on operationalization of the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) and Establishment of Emergency Operations Centres for responding to emergencies and handling of day to day public health occurrences. 

They also explored Public Health workforce development through training of Field Epidemiologists and strengthening local laboratory capacity to enhance surveillance.

The PS noted that Kenya has enjoyed a long standing relationship with the CDC and that Ministry values CDC's support in human resource capacity building, Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) national public health laboratory services among others.
