Cabinet Secretary For Health Meets With KMPDU And CoG Officials To Address Pending Salaries For Medical Interns

Nairobi, Kenya May 9, 2023

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nakhumicha S. Wafula, held a meeting with officials of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) Health Committee. H.E Muthomi Njuki to address pertinent issues raised by the workers’ union.

During the meeting, CS Nakhumicha assured the union that the pending salaries for medical interns will be cleared as soon as possible, and the last batch of interns will be posted to their various stations. The union leaders, led by SG Dr. Davji Atela, committed to revoking the strike notice they had issued recently and promised to give dialogue a chance in resolving the matters raised.

The Chair of CoG health committee, H.E Muthomi Njuki, reaffirmed the county governments’ commitment to resolving issues raised by various health unions that directly affect the counties. The CS committed to acting on the grievances raised within the next two weeks.

The meeting is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that medical interns receive their salaries promptly and are posted to their respective stations to serve the public. The commitment by all parties involved to dialogue and resolve the issues raised is commendable and will go a long way in improving the healthcare sector in Kenya.
