PS Muthoni: Regional Cooperation Central to Pandemic Preparedness

Kampala , 2025 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has underscored Kenya’s commitment to regional cooperation as the cornerstone of pandemic preparedness and response.

Speaking in Kampala, Uganda, during the launch of the IGAD Pandemic Preparedness and Response Initiative, the PS emphasized that solidarity, transparency, and cross-border collaboration are vital in strengthening collective resilience against future health emergencies.

She noted that investments in early detection, rapid response systems, and healthcare infrastructure will not only safeguard lives but also promote economic stability and regional security.

The launch brought together Health Ministers and senior officials from across the IGAD region, reaffirming a shared commitment to building stronger health systems capable of addressing current and emerging health threats.

Those present included H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba Feyssa, Minister of Health of Ethiopia; Hon. Dr. Miriam Mohamed Hussein, State Minister of Health of Somalia; Hon. Sarah Cletto Hassan Rial, Minister of Health of South Sudan; and H.E. Dr. Heitham Mohammed Ibrahim, Minister of Health of Sudan.

Also in attendance were Hon. Sam Cheptoris, Minister of Water and Environment of Uganda; Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities of Uganda; and Hon. Bright Rwamirama, Minister of State for Animal Industry of Uganda.
