PS Muthoni Rallies Grassroots Leaders to Boost UHC, Tackle Drug Abuse, and Champion Healthcare Reforms
Kirinyaga , 2025 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, held a grassroots consultative forum with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), village elders, and Community Health Promoters (CHPs) to strengthen coordination in frontline service delivery. The discussions focused on accelerating Universal Health Coverage (UHC), enhancing health awareness at the household level, and addressing the urgent challenge of drug and substance abuse.
PS Muthoni emphasized the importance of the proposed Quality Health and Patient Safety Bill as a key legal instrument to uphold healthcare standards and safeguard lives. She also underscored the role of the Social Health Authority (SHA) as a transformative mechanism for delivering accessible, equitable, and sustainable healthcare services to all Kenyans.
The engagement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to closer collaboration between administrative structures and community health systems, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), whose key pillars include affordable healthcare, housing, and community empowerment.
