PS Muthoni highlights benefits for women under the Social Health Authority during the International Women's Day 2025

Homabay  March 8, 2025 This year’s International Women’s Day theme—"Empower Every Woman: Equality, Progress, Inclusion"—emphasizes the importance of universal rights and opportunities, ensuring that every woman and girl can contribute to a more equitable future.

The Government of Kenya recognizes the special position of women in society and remains committed to fostering inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities.

Under the Social Health Authority (SHA), the revamped Linda Mama Program now offers expanded benefits to support pregnant women throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care, ensuring both mother and child receive essential health services.

Through the Community Health Program, women at the grassroots level can access basic screening and referral services, promoting prevention and early disease detection.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health is working with County Governments and development partners to combat the Triple Threat of new HIV infections, teen pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among adolescents and young people.

Speaking at the High-Level Conversation on Beijing @30, hosted by Homa Bay Governor Hon. Gladys Wanga, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and empowerment of women.

"The Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that every woman has access to quality healthcare and protection from all forms of violence.Through initiatives like the revamped Linda Mama Program and Community Health interventions,we are strengthening maternal and child health while ensuring women at all levels of society receive the support they need to thrive." Said the PS.
