PS Mary Muthoni Highlights Reforms to Strengthen Quality, Safety, and Equity in Healthcare Delivery

Nairobi , 2025 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms Mary Muthoni, has underscored the government’s commitment to quality, safety, and accountability in healthcare delivery.

Speaking during a televised interview on Inooro TV, PS Muthoni said the proposed Quality Health Care and Safety Bill is a critical step towards safeguarding patient rights, enhancing standards of care, and restoring public confidence in health institutions. “This Bill affirms that access to quality healthcare is a right for all—not a privilege for a few,” she stated.

She also outlined ongoing reforms under the Social Health Authority (SHA), which aim to build a more efficient, equitable, and people-centred health system aligned with the goals of Universal Health Coverage.

On public health preparedness, PS Muthoni highlighted Kenya’s strengthened capacity to respond to emerging disease threats such as Mpox, emphasizing the importance of hygiene, surveillance, and timely public awareness in managing outbreaks.

In addition, she recognized the vital role of Community Health Promoters in supporting primary healthcare through health education, hygiene promotion, early care-seeking, and linking underserved populations to essential services, particularly in remote areas.
