Kenya Intensifies Ebola Preparedness at Malaba Border Amid Uganda Outbreak
Malaba ,2026 The Ministry of Health has intensified Ebola preparedness and response measures at the Malaba border following reported cases in neighbouring Uganda.
Speaking during an inspection of the border point of entry, Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni reaffirmed that Kenya remains free of Ebola Virus Disease, noting that all 59 suspected cases tested in the country have returned negative results.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance, enhance laboratory testing capacity through laboratories in Nairobi and Kisumu, and scale up public awareness campaigns to support early detection and prevention.
The Principal Secretary also emphasized the need for adequate quarantine facilities to ensure exposed individuals can be safely isolated and any suspected cases effectively managed.
Mary Muthoni urged the public to maintain proper hygiene practices, avoid misinformation, and rely on verified updates from the Ministry of Health and official government communication channels.
She reaffirmed the Government's commitment to safeguarding public health through strengthened border health security, enhanced preparedness, and coordinated response measures to prevent the importation and spread of Ebola Virus Disease into the country.
