Nyandarua County has recorded significant progress in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), achieving 96% vaccination coverage and 98% of maternity services delivered by skilled personnel.
During an engagement with county leadership, Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale endorsed plans to expand the number of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) from 1,237 to about 1,500 β a move designed to strengthen household-level care and bring essential health services closer to families.
The CS also rallied residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), underscoring its role in making healthcare affordable and protecting vulnerable households. He affirmed the governmentβs commitment to achieving full national coverage under SHA.
Together with Governor H.E. Dr. Kiarie Badilisha, CS Duale inspected the new ultra-modern wing of JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital. The facility, which will house ICU, HDU, newborn, and postnatal units, is set to transform the hospital into a fully-fledged Level 5 teaching and referral centre.
Through the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP), the hospital has been equipped with a CT scan unit scheduled for installation next week. Healthcare providers are undergoing training to boost their capacity, with ultrasound and dialysis machines also planned for delivery.
CS Duale reaffirmed that health remains both a foundation of human development and a driver of economic growth.
