State Department Begins Preparation of FY 2026/2027 Budget

Kilifi , 2025 The Budget Secretariat of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards has commenced the preparation of the Financial Year 2026/2027 and Medium-Term Budget.

The exercise, which is taking place in Nairobi, is guided by the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Under BETA, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a key priority, to be achieved through strategic pillars including access to health products and technologies, strengthening human resources for health, and digitization of health systems.

In addition, the budget preparation process takes into account the priorities outlined in the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP-IV) and integrates the principles of climate change mitigation and adaptation, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.

According to the Secretariat, program performance reviews and the preparation of subsector and program-based budget reports form an integral part of the process. These will help assess progress, identify gaps, and ensure resources are allocated effectively to maximize impact.

The Department emphasized that the upcoming budget will be key in strengthening Kenya’s public health systems and sustaining progress towards Universal Health Coverage, while aligning with national development goals and global health commitments.
