Kenya Scales Up Climate–Health Action, Explores New Partnerships

Nairobi ,2025 Kenya has made notable strides in addressing climate change and health, including the development of the Kenya Climate Change and Health Strategy (2024–2029), the Household Air Pollution Prevention Strategy, and the roll-out of non-burn clinical waste management technologies geared towards reducing health sector greenhouse gas emissions.

To build on these gains, the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni met with the Rockefeller Foundation to chart the path forward on partnerships for climate–health collaboration. The discussions focused on supporting Kenya's health sector to show case its unique partnership approach to tackle climate change impacts to health in the 30th climate change conference of parties (COP30) in Brazil, the upcoming Pan-African Environment, Climate Change and Health Conference in Nairobi, and strengthening investment in climate-health research and workforce capacity development and training.

The courtesy call was led by Dr. Naveen Rao, Senior Vice President for Health at the Rockefeller Foundation, accompanied by Gerrishom Gimaiyo, Director of Health for the Africa Regional Office.
