Kenya, Siemens Healthineers Strengthen Partnership to Expand Cancer Care and Advance UHC
Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale held a strategic engagement with a delegation from Siemens Healthineers, led by Vice President and Head of Public Sector Engagement Kevin Ani Massoudi, aimed at strengthening Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, with a focus on expanding access to cancer treatment.
Under the government’s transformative health agenda, the Ministry of Health is engaging key stakeholders to enhance access to affordable, quality healthcare without financial hardship. Regional cancer centres are already being established in Mombasa, Nakuru, and Garissa—a critical step in decentralising specialised services and bringing care closer to communities.
The Cabinet Secretary updated the delegation on ongoing reforms, highlighting the National Equipment Service Project (NESP), which is improving access to critical diagnostic and treatment equipment nationwide. He also cited the Ministry’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Roche, which has cut the cost of Herceptin therapy from Ksh.120,000 to Ksh.40,000 per session, now fully covered by the Social Health Authority (SHA)—ensuring equitable access to life-saving treatment across the country.
Discussions with Siemens Healthineers centred on establishing sustainable Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and leveraging the company’s expertise in AI, digital platforms, capacity building, and technology transfer to strengthen Kenya’s health systems.
Hon. Duale commended Siemens Healthineers for its partnership in expanding access to sustainable radiotherapy and diagnostics. The two parties agreed to establish a joint technical working group to advance SLAs, digital innovations, and NESP-aligned equipment models—positioning Kenya as a continental leader in sustainable cancer care.
The CS was joined by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, National Cancer Institute of Kenya (@NCIKenya ) CEO, Dr. Elias Melly and other senior Ministry officials during the meeting.
