PS Oluga Engages Science for Africa Foundation on Research-Driven Health Collaboration

𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢, 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 —
The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga,  hosted a delegation from the Science for Africa (SFA) Foundation for a strategic engagement focused on strengthening collaboration in health research, innovation, and systems development.

The discussion centred on aligning the Ministry’s priorities with the Foundation’s areas of expertise, particularly in supporting evidence-based policymaking, accelerating local innovation, and enhancing health systems resilience across Kenya.

Dr. Oluga reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with research-led institutions to drive progress under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Key areas of discussion included:
• Strengthening Programme Support Mechanisms (PSM)
• Advancing research-policy integration and stakeholder engagement
• Supporting local vaccine manufacturing
• Leveraging strategic partnerships with institutions such as the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)
• Enhancing collaboration through the Kenya UK Health Alliance (KUKHA)

The SFA Foundation shared its ongoing work in Kenya and across the continent, highlighting opportunities to co-design programmes that deliver long-term impact.

Both sides agreed to identify concrete next steps toward building a collaborative framework that enhances innovation, local ownership, and sustainability in the health sector.
