The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, on , held a high-level consultative meeting with representatives from the Health Informatics in Africa (HELINA) and Palladium to advance Kenya’s preparations to host the Global Digital Health Forum (GDHF) 2025.

The visiting delegation included Mr. Stephen Wanyee, President of HELINA, and Ms. Rose Nzioka, Country Director for Palladium. Senior Ministry of Health officials present included Dr. Manya and Dr. Joyce Wamicwe from the Digital Health Division.

The discussions focused on Kenya’s growing influence in digital health and the strategic significance of hosting GDHF2025. This follows the successful hosting of GDHF2024 in Nairobi, the first time the forum was held outside the United States. The 2024 edition attracted over 1,200 participants, including 16 African Ministries of Health, and featured a well-received plenary session showcasing Kenya’s 15-year digital health journey.

GDHF2025 is expected to:
• Position Kenya as a continental leader in digital health innovation;
• Advance key national priorities such as interoperability, health information exchange, artificial intelligence (AI), and open digital standards;
• Strengthen pandemic preparedness and health system resilience through localized, data-driven solutions;
• Promote gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) in digital health;
• Enable knowledge exchange and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Oluga reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging digital transformation to drive equitable, efficient, and accountable healthcare. He emphasized that hosting GDHF2025 provides a timely platform for aligning stakeholders, showcasing Kenya’s digital health innovations, and reinforcing the country’s position as a regional hub for digital health advancement.

The Ministry of Health will continue to work closely with HELINA, Palladium, and other partners to ensure GDHF2025 delivers meaningful impact in line with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and national health priorities.
