Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has officially launched the Comprehensive Eye Unit and Physiotherapy Units at Mokowe Sub-County Hospital in Lamu County, marking a major step toward enhancing access to specialized care and improving patient experiences in the region.

During the launch event onย , Hon. Duale addressed local residents, highlighting the benefits of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and its role in delivering affordable, quality care under Kenyaโ€™s broader healthcare transformation agenda.

On the issue of fraud within the health sector, the CS raised concern over an ongoing investigation involving facilities accused of illegally converting outpatient visits into inpatient claims. He cautioned doctors against breaching ethical standards, warning that sharing pre-authorization codes with unauthorized individuals would lead to the revocation of medical licenses.

Revealing that over 1,000 non-compliant health facilities have recently been shut down for defrauding the government, Hon. Duale assured the public that only ethical and accredited facilities would be supported going forwardโ€”unlike past experiences under the defunct NHIF system.

He also called on the community to rise above divisive politics and instead rally behind ongoing health sector reforms aimed at fast-tracking Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The event was attended by Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy, County Woman Representative Hon. Marubu Muthoni, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, and Acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency Anthony Lenaiyara, among other senior Ministry of Health officials.
