𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟑𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has urged the Social Health Authority (SHA) Board to maintain an unwavering focus on enhancing fraud detection, strengthening provider oversight, and implementing robust performance measurement systems, as part of efforts to safeguard public confidence and accelerate the rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Speaking during a high-level meeting with the SHA Board at the Authority’s headquarters in Nairobi, Hon. Duale emphasized the need for principled, transparent, and people-centered governance. “Every policy decision we make in this room carries profound implications for Kenyans across the country – from the expectant mother in Migori, to the cancer patient in Nyeri, to the elderly citizen in Garissa. They all rely on us to build a health financing system that is efficient, sustainable, and truly worthy of their trust,” he said.

The CS outlined three core areas for SHA’s strategic focus: enforcing strict financial discipline within the 5% administrative expenditure ceiling; safeguarding the system’s integrity through comprehensive audit mechanisms; and offering visionary leadership to guide SHA’s institutional growth.

He called on the Board to ensure timely claim payments and generate sustainable revenue to guarantee continuity of the TaifaCare programme. “Your oversight in these areas will determine whether we realize TaifaCare’s full potential,” he stated.

Noting that fraud poses the single biggest threat to the programme’s sustainability, Hon. Duale challenged the Board to act with vigilance and decisiveness. “The trust Kenyans have placed in us demands nothing less than our unwavering commitment to protecting every shilling meant for their healthcare,” he concluded.

The meeting was hosted by SHA Board Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed and CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi. The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth.
