Ministry of Health Intensifies Drive to End Preventable Maternal and Newborn Deaths through EWENE Campaign

Machakos, Kenya - 19th May 2025;  The Ministry of Health is stepping up efforts to tackle preventable maternal and newborn deaths through the EWENE (Every Woman Every newborn Every where) Campaign, which is focused on strengthening coordination and strategic communication on reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health.

During the message finalisation workshop held in Machakos Dr Edward Serem, Head of the Division of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), called for deliberate action to address maternal and newborn health challenges.

“We want to address issues of maternal and newborn health in this country. Put efforts to sensitise people who matter. We don’t want situations of mothers and newborns dying,” said Dr Serem.

He underscored the need to develop appropriate messages for all target audiences and highlighted resource mobilisation as critical to sustaining interventions at both national and county levels.
