Public Health Principal Secretary Appears Before Parliament Over Lang’ata Cemetery Concerns

Nairobi , 2025 The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni,  appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Implementation to present a report on the continued use of Lang’ata Cemetery, which was declared full nearly two decades ago.

The Ministry of Health has raised concerns over the potential public health risks associated with the ongoing use of the cemetery and has recommended urgent mitigation measures.

In her submission, the PS emphasized the need to uphold the dignity of the deceased and called for the identification of alternative burial land. The Ministry is working in collaboration with the Nairobi City County Government and other stakeholders to address the issue.

Safeguarding public health remains a top priority for the Ministry.
