Ministry of Health Holds Preparatory Meeting for Upcoming Visit by Wellcome Trust and University of Oxford Leaders

๐๐š๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐›๐ข, ๐Š๐ž๐ง๐ฒ๐š - ๐Ÿ•๐ญ๐ก ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ - The Ministry of Health conducted a preparatory meeting with senior representatives from the Wellcome Trust and the University of Oxford, led by the Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth representing the Cabinet Secretary.ย 

The meeting laid groundwork for the upcoming visit of Hon. Julia Gillard, Chair of Wellcome Trustโ€™s Board of Governors and former Australian Prime Minister, and Prof. Irene Tracey, CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford.ย 

ย The visiting delegation, led by Mr. Chris Bird, Chief Legal Officer of the Wellcome Trust, also included Dr. Julia Kemp, Head of Major International Programmes; Mr. Chris Price, Divisional Registrar of Oxfordโ€™s Medical Sciences Division; and Mr. Edward Gibbs, Chief Operating Officer of the Nuffield Department of Medicine.ย 

Discussions centered on finalizing details for the visit scheduled forย November 25โ€“26, 2024. The visit will commemorate Wellcomeโ€™s 60 years of impactful collaboration in Kenya, marking 35 years of partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and celebrating significant research achievements that have contributed to health advancements.ย ย 

As Kenya prepares to welcome Hon. Gillard and Prof. Tracey, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to advancing health research and strengthening partnerships that contribute to improved health outcomes locally and globally.
