๐๐๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐๐ข, ๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ - The Ministry of Health is urging all Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) as part of a transformative agenda aimed at ensuring access to quality healthcare services without financial hardship.ย
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah M. Barasa emphasized the need for collective efforts to enhance registration and healthcare delivery during a media engagement in her officeย today. Dr. Barasa highlighted the importance of collaboration, calling on the media and other stakeholders to work together in promoting SHA registration. โHow can we work together to ensure Kenyans register for SHA and go to hospitals to experience healthcare services themselves,โ she posed.ย
To facilitate the registration process, the Social Health Authority has established a customer center to address any issues, and utilizing various channels to communicate with the public. The government is also implementing means testing for households, with an insurance premium being developed to support families in need.ย
ย The CS noted that approximately 80% of Kenyans would benefit from this initiative, emphasizing the importance of families registering to experience the healthcare services offered. The Ministry is actively engaging with various support groups, including those for renal and cancer survivors, to understand their experiences and tailor services accordingly. To strengthen primary healthcare services, the Ministry plans to ensure that essential drugs are distributed to the last mile by December.ย
Additionally, there will be a focus on mapping out healthcare facilities to guarantee that all necessary medicines are available. The government will conduct a multidisciplinary assessment through the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA) to ensure that all facilities can provide adequate services.ย
ย Dr. Barasa reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all Kenyans, reiterating that primary healthcare services will be available up to Level 4 until awareness of these services is widespread. The goal is to improve the overall quality of healthcare and facilitate better health outcomes for all citizens.
