Health Ministry Rallies Migori Community Against Tobacco Farming and Drug Abuse

Migori , 2025 The Ministry of Health, through the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards,  conducted a community sensitization forum on the Tobacco-Free Farm initiative and drug and substance abuse in Kurutiange, Masaba Ward, Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County.

The forum aimed to raise awareness on the harmful health and economic impacts of tobacco cultivation and use, and to promote sustainable, health-conscious alternatives for farmers. Discussions further highlighted the growing threat of drug and substance abuse among the youth and emphasized the need for coordinated, community-led interventions to address this challenge.

The forum was led by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, who underscored the importance of community sensitization in driving long-term behavioural change and protecting public health at the grassroots.
