Government Aims to Register All Kenyans Under Social Health Authority by December
๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฌ๐, ๐๐๐ง๐ฒ๐ โ ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ โ The government is committed to registering all Kenyans under the Social Health Authority (SHA) by December, with over 7,000 health providers already contracted to deliver services. Mr. Harry Kimtai, Principal Secretary for Medical Services, highlighted that over 60% of the population is currently enrolled and urged counties to engage actively in the rollout.ย
ย To promote transparency, Mr. Kimtai announced that the government will publish a list of all facilities registered in the SHA system. โThis week, we will make public the facilities that have been approved to provide medical services under the SHA. As long as you have signed a contract with us, you are expected to serve Kenyans without discrimination. If not, we will take action,โ he stressed.ย
ย Additionally, the government is addressing outstanding payments to health facilities, having already disbursed KSh 1.5 billion, with another KSh 3 billion scheduled for payment this week, ensuring all claims are settled within 90 days.ย
ย County SHA Implementation Committees will be established to oversee the grassroots rollout, with Community Health Promoters (CHPs) assisting in household registration to ensure inclusivity.
